About the event

Though a new event, the afternoon draws on Pam and Francis Gimblett's 25-year experience of hosting fun, interactive formats that bring activity, information and humour together.

After a welcome drink, drawn from the woods, you'll forage for the materials you need to re-create a scale version of a traditional charcoal clamp, the ancient vehicle for transforming wood into charcoal. After an introduction that brings to life the rich iron-making history of the area, you'll have all the skills you need to approach the task in groups. We may add an element of competition.

As the event progresses, you'll partake in tastings of woodland cordials and shrubs, have a go at fire by friction, help to fill and light our ring kiln, and take part in other fun activities, as time allows.

You'll also have the option to stay on at the Pub In Nobody's Wood, for an evening of companionship,…
